The FBI
The FBI, or the Federal Bureau of Investigation is a branch of the federal system that is focused on performing criminal investigations of a certain nature. Sometimes, there is a fine line behind what is considered a federal case and what is considered a case that the local or state authorities should take care of. For example, if the criminal activities take place over several states, then the FBI would be in charge of the case.
A lot of people feel as if working for the FBI is a glamorous job. And since a lot of people feel that way, standards for making it into the FBI are strict. You need to pass an extensive test and get the proper training. For those who don’t qualify, it can be difficult to deal with but most end up finding others ways to serve in law enforcement.
Basically, the FBI is a part of the Federal Department of Justice which oversees matters of law pertaining to the country. There are some things in the United States that are determined by the state and other things that are determined by the federal government. Currently, the FBI has jurisdiction over 200 federal related crimes. If someone commits one of these crimes, the FBI is responsible for taking care of the investigations.
The FBI is also something that appears constantly in the movies. There seems to be different portrayals of the FBI. In a movie that focuses on glorifying the local police, the characters are often seen taking jibes at the FBI members that may try to be involved with an investigation. But if the movie focuses on the FBI, then it is seen as something that is glorious.
It is also important to keep in mind that the FBI is in need of not just agents, but other professionals such as forensics experts and scientists. A lot goes into solving a crime, not just doing field work. Everything that you can do as a member of the FBI matters. If you want to be a part of it, set a goal and determine what you have to do. Often, your path will be determined by the choices you make in high school and in college. Why not take advantage of this so you can be in the FBI?
