Passports are a very important thing to have with you while traveling, especially in this post 9/11 world where people have a distrust of foreigners. While the threat of terrorist attack was once a far away concept in the mind of a typical American, 9/11 made that threat more real and more frightening.
As a result, everybody who comes into and goes out of the United States are absolutely required to have passports. While this was always the case, the policy is now even more strictly enforced. In fact, if anyone from anywhere in the world wishes to travel to another country, passports are needed or else the travel cannot happen.
If you know that you need to go overseas or leave your country of residence for any reasons, you need passports. Some people, such as ambassadors, may need more than one passport. One strictly tourist passport and another official passport. Otherwise, people are require to have only one. Extra care needs to be made to make sure that the passports your group has during travel are not expired. That makes it invalid which can be a real hassle.
The first thing you need to do while getting passports is get a passport photo taken. This can be done pretty much anywhere, and the rates are not that expensive. For example, some places even have booths where you can get the passport photos taken. You just insert the money and everyone can have pictures made up for their passports on the spot. This can be a real benefit and a convenience. After you get the photos taken, you will need to fill out a form and visit the passport office to finalize everything. Be careful not to wait until the last minute or else you might not be able to go on your trip.
